About this series
Who can say when a war like the Six-Day War actually began? Rav Mike takes that question seriously and tells the war in seven parts, starting well before the first shot. The series closes Season 3 and sets up much of what follows in the Jewish Story.
The first episodes build the road to war: a new personality, a battle, the wider context, then Egypt remilitarising the Sinai while the UN forces evaporate. As the pressure mounts, some of the flaws at the heart of the Zionist project come into view, and the question becomes whether Israel will go it alone. Three weeks of waiting follow, a period that demanded its own kind of courage.
Then the war itself. The first three days, including the return of Am Yisrael to Jerusalem, raise a question Rav Mike leaves with the listener: where exactly does the miracle lie? The conquest of the Golan closes the fighting, and the final episode looks at the day after, when the framing of the victory became the new battlefield and the path led to UN Resolution 242.
