About this series
Every tale has a point around which it revolves, and for the Jewish Story that point is the Temple Mount. In four episodes near the end of Season 6, Rav Mike traces how the sacred mountain in the middle of Jerusalem is still at the centre of our story.
After an opening episode on the hinge point, the series takes up the question of Jewish prayer on the Mount: the argument between Moshe Dayan and Rabbi Shlomo Goren in 1967, the fire set by Denis Michael Rohan, the shooting by Allan Goodman, the riots of 1990, and figures such as Shabtai Ben-Dov, Yehuda Etzion and the Temple Mount Faithful. The third episode follows the narrative war, from Muslim leaders acknowledging the Jewish connection in the 1920s to Yasser Arafat denying it in the 1990s, through Oslo, Camp David, the destruction of antiquities by the Waqf and the Temple Mount Sifting Project.
The final episode asks whether Ariel Sharon’s visit in 2000 triggered the Second Intifada or whether the assault was planned, and covers the attempt on Rabbi Yehudah Glick, the Ramallah lynching, and Arafat’s rejection of Jewish history in front of Ehud Barak and Madeleine Albright.
